Frequently asked questions
How do I know which Zita West product is right for me?
The most important starting point is your journey stage. Nutritional needs change significantly depending on whether you are trying to conceive, going through fertility treatment, pregnant, or in the postnatal period, so the right supplement for one stage may not be the most appropriate for another.
As a general guide:
• Trying to conceive (women): Vitafem is the core preconception multivitamin, formulated with nutrients including active Methylfolate, B6, B12, Zinc and Selenium to support egg health and hormonal balance.
• Trying to conceive (men): Vitamen provides the key micronutrients most relevant to sperm health, including Zinc, Selenium and antioxidant support.
Many of our customers choose to build on this foundation with additional, more targeted supplements. Our guide on building your Zita West supplement routine walks through how to stack products effectively based on your specific needs.
• IVF or fertility treatment: our IVF and fertility treatment range includes additional targeted support for both women and men preparing for assisted conception.
• Pregnancy (trimester by trimester): the Vital Essence range is formulated to meet the changing nutritional demands of each trimester.
• Postnatal: dedicated postnatal supplements support recovery and, where relevant, breastfeeding, such as Revital Essence.
If you are unsure where to start, our free 1:1 product consultation with a fertility nutrition expert can help you build a personalised protocol.
What makes Zita West supplements different from a standard multivitamin?
Most standard multivitamins are formulated for general health maintenance. Zita West supplements are designed specifically around the physiological demands of fertility, pregnancy and the postnatal period, and the formulation choices reflect that.
We use active, bioavailable forms of key nutrients (like Methylfolate instead of synthetic Folic Acid, and Kaneka Ubiquinol CoQ10) at clinically relevant dosages, chosen to support the specific demands of the reproductive stage, not simply to meet minimum recommended daily allowances, which are set to prevent deficiency rather than to meet the higher demands of fertility and pregnancy. And every batch is third-party tested, with certificates published on the relevant product pages.
The range was developed alongside clinical practice in a leading IVF setting, which shapes both the ingredient selection and the dosage rationale.
Should I take a pack or individual supplements?
Both approaches are valid, depending on where you are in your journey and what level of support you need.
• Packs bundle the supplements most commonly recommended for a specific stage into a single, discounted purchase, a straightforward way to cover the foundational nutrients without having to build a protocol from scratch.
• Individual supplements give you the flexibility to tailor your intake more precisely, particularly relevant if you're already taking certain nutrients, have been advised by a clinician to focus on specific areas, or want to add targeted support, such as Kaneka Ubiquinol CoQ10 for egg quality, or Choline alongside a multivitamin.
Most of our supplements are designed to be stackable, so you can combine them without duplication. If you want guidance on combining products, book a free 1:1 product consultation.
Do you offer subscriptions, and how do they work?
Yes. Zita West supplements are available on a monthly subscription, which saves 15% compared to a one-time purchase. Subscriptions are flexible by design:
• Products are delivered automatically on your chosen schedule (monthly by default)
• You can skip, modify or cancel at any time, with no minimum commitment
• Subscription orders qualify for free UK shipping on orders over £60, in the same way as one-time purchases
A subscription makes practical sense for supplements taken consistently over several months, where at least three months is generally recommended to support the egg and sperm development cycle.
How long should I take supplements before I expect to notice a difference?
This depends on the supplement and what you are hoping to support. For general nutritional intake and energy, some people find they feel the benefit of a consistent routine within four to six weeks. For egg quality specifically, a longer course is needed: eggs develop over the 90 day egg maturation window, which is why a minimum of three months is recommended before drawing conclusions about the impact of a preconception protocol. Sperm development follows a similar timeline; sperm follow the 74 day sperm development cycle, so the same three-month principle applies to men taking supplements such as Vitamen.
A practical note: supplements work best as part of a consistent routine. Taking them with food helps absorption and reduces the likelihood of any digestive sensitivity.
Can I take these alongside fertility treatment or medication?
Yes, our supplements are formulated with nutrients appropriate for preconception and fertility treatment, and many are designed specifically with IVF in mind. That said, if you're on prescribed medication or following a clinic protocol, we always recommend checking with your healthcare practitioner before adding anything new.
What should I look for when comparing fertility or pregnancy vitamins?
• Check the form and amount of Folate. The NHS recommends 400µg of Folic Acid a day. Look at whether it is provided as Folic Acid or as active Folate (5-MTHF), which the body can use without conversion.
• Check the Vitamin D. The NHS recommends 10µg a day during preconception and pregnancy.
• Look at whether the amounts are meaningful, not just present, by comparing against the NRV on the label. Look at the forms of minerals too, such as bisglycinate.
• Ask whether the product is formulated for your stage. Preconception, each trimester and breastfeeding have different needs.
• Check whether Omega-3 DHA is included or needs to be taken separately, and whether there is a matching product for your partner.
• Look for independent third-party testing, ideally with batch certificates you can check.
• In pregnancy, avoid Vitamin A in the retinol form. Beta Carotene is a safe source.
